Detroit news poll: not quite what it seems
Article Abstract:
The way public opinion polls are interpreted can do much harm for poll subjects. In the case of the Detroit News/Gannett News Service telephone poll on Afro-American civil rights organizations, the method of research and questionnaire were impeccable. The results were presented in such a way, however, that the conclusions erroneously showed that these organizations were failures. Polls are such powerful tools of propaganda that the misuse warrants serious attention.
