NATO enlargement: a holistic approach for the future

Article Abstract:

A holistic enlargement of NATO can help to stabilize the Central and Eastern European democracies and economies that have degenerated after the fall of communism. The fall of communism has brought in its path a multitude of problems which has led to the spread of internal, political and economic instabilities in these countries. In a redefined role, NATO must assume the function of advancing stability through security to offer the democracies of the region a chance for advancement and development. Guidelines for accepting former communist countries are suggested.

Can the United States afford the new world order?

Article Abstract:

The US is the only political and diplomatic superpower due to its high military expenditure and its leading role in the organization of NATO. Its successful handling of the Gulf War indicates that it can cope with the new world order. The US is concerned about Europe's security and Europe can depend only on the US for its integrity. The efforts of the US to create a new world order can be successful only if Europe resolves its problems.
