Nuclear rollback decisions: future lessons?

Article Abstract:

The nine 'non-nuclear' nations that have developed or sought to develop nuclear weapons have all either slowed or stopped development in recent years for similar reasons. These include the end of the Cold War and the resulting changes in international relations, the increasing use of foreign economic assistance in influencing domestic decisions, non-proliferation efforts by the US and the global community, and stronger domestic leadership in countries that once sought the bomb.

U.S. security aid to the former Soviet Union

Article Abstract:

Congress has authorized more than $800 million in aid over the past two yers to help the successor states of the former USSR in dismantling their nuclear arsenals. In addition, another $400 million has been allocated for the same purpose in FY 1993. The conditions attached to this aid, and the expenditures that have been made to date, are presented.

Russian arms and technology transfers to Iran: policy challenges for the United States

Article Abstract:

The new Bush administration must actively manage Russian arms and technology transfers to Iran if it is to prevent the spectre of a nuclear Iran armed with long-range weapons.
