Philippine politics and the rule of law

Article Abstract:

The Philippine democratic transition is well advanced, but lack of equal justice remains a key barrier to further democratic progress. However, the Philippines can serve as an effective laboratory for observing the impact of shortcomings in the rule of law, and the success or failure of various strategies for remedying these shortcomings.

The persistence of Arab Authoritarianism

Article Abstract:

The lack of democracy in the Arab world is a problem that goes far beyond the absence of competitive elections. It is suggested that the lack must be traced not to religion or culture, but to adverse historical and geostrategic circumstances.
