Russian energy and the European Union

Article Abstract:

Russian energy policy has faced criticism of late with speculations rife about the strategic partnership, which is supposed to characterize the Russian-European Union relationship. Russia's claim to great power status, which seemed so hollow in the 1990s, has acquired substance since energy prices began to increase with clear correlation between its increasingly independent foreign policy stance and the growth in the economy as a result of the rise in world oil prices.
