Strategies of resistance at the Pollok Free State road protest camp

Article Abstract:

An analysis of Pollok Free State resistance strategies reveals they are best described as forms of embryonic counter-hegemonic resistance. The ideological and symbolic challenge posed by the group and the strategy of empowering the community in extra-institutional collective direct action in the battle against the 'Roads to Prosperity' program makes the protest group an example of such.

Green political theory and the European Union: The case for a non-integrated civil society

Article Abstract:

The European Commission's own proposals for restructuring its relationship to civil society organizations follow a trajectory from 'passive inclusion' to 'active inclusion' of civil society groups. This historical sequence is associated with weakening civil society's capacity to serve as a reservoir of democratic innovation in the European Union's system of multilevel governance.
