Semiconductors and information technology: a better way

Article Abstract:

The semiconductor trade between the US and Japan has been marred by several disputes arising from the Japanese practice of the 'keiretsu' or forming trade associations that facilitate exclusive trade to pressures from US companies to increase their share in the international market. The entry of other countries such as Korea and European Union member nations in the semiconductor industry has complicated existing trade regulations. The World Trade Organization has proposed the formation of an Information Technology Agreement to oversee international trade relations regarding the exchange and imports of information technology products.
