The case for presidential term limits

Article Abstract:

The benefits of individual alternation in presidential office and the dangers of an individual holding power for too long have justified presidential term limits in a democracy, but a trend is prevalent of presidents modifying constitutional provisions imposing term limits. Rich international support to promote democratization by enabling the possible alternation of political parties in power through presidential term limits is necessary.

Pathways from authoritarianism

Article Abstract:

A study is undertaken to explore institutional requisites for democracy by examining if different types of authoritarianism have different tendencies for survival and for democratization. Results reveal that limited multiparty authoritarian governments are the most likely to democratize, and the fact that multiparty regimes are the most common form of authoritarian government is a hopeful sign of their future transition to democracy.

The rise of "Muslim democracy"

Article Abstract:

The political trends that roughly resemble the rise of Christian Democracy in twentieth-century Europe are fueled by the motivations granted by the competitive elections in a number of Muslim-majority countries. Muslim Democrats view political life with a practical approach, unlike Islamist, who view politics by their visions of rule by a restored caliphate.
