The death penalty: America's final solution

Article Abstract:

Concerns have been expressed over the unfair treatment of the criminal justice system against African Americans, particularly in the imposition of the death penalty. The number of African Americans who have been sentenced to death is much higher that for whites, despite the fact that African Americans constitute only a small fraction of the population. Critics say that the system tends to put more emphasis on swift and sure punishment than on justice. The lack of competent attorneys for these kinds of cases has also contributed to the increase in death penalty sentences.
