Black leadership and the deracialization of politics

Article Abstract:

The avoidance of racial issues by campaigning politicians has brought the question of Afro-American identity seriously into question. These 'postblack politicians' are marked for their failure to address socioeconomic issues of poverty, education and unemployment of blacks. Afro-Americans have had to contend with the decrease in federal support for sociocivic programs by successive Republican administrations. The gender issue, which is fast becoming a problem with the black community, and celebrity leadership further undermine the effectiveness of black leaders.

African-Americans in the new world order

Article Abstract:

African-Americans continue to fight for human rights and new political ideologies even with the changes in the world order after the decline of communism. The breakdown of the Soviet Union has caused America to place less emphasis on foreign policy and defense budgets and focus instead on urban problems especially those related to blacks. Blacks have often been used as scapegoats, but the new world order must emphasize the cultural and economic rights of communities if justice and equality are to be achieved.
