Issues are presented concerning the role of the World Trade Organization in the regulation of global trade in genetically modified organisms. The benefits and safety of biotechnology is discussed.

Research is presented concerning the steps which need to be taken to further integrate agricultural trade regulations into the more general regulations of the World Trade Organization. The achievements of the Uruguay Round are discussed.

Trade facilitation and WTO rules: for a better harmonized customs system

Article Abstract:

The trade facilitation issue has been proposed to be listed on the agenda of the upcoming New Round of Multilateral Trade Negotiations for a facilitation of the world trade. It has also been proposed that a provision limiting the amount of goods declared by an importer in an individual customs clearance for which the Dispute Settlement Body of the World Trade Organization can determine shall have a limitation, provided that the periodic outstanding of identical goods declared by the importer have been taken into account.
