The stranded individual of the South

Article Abstract:

The meaning of individuality in the Europe of the Renaissance and the Enlightenment and individuality in Europe-colonized nations is compared. In the former, it translated to to liberty, progress, initiative and creativity, while in the latter, it meant isolation, loss of a frame of reference and solitude.

After progress in the South: Khomeini, Saddam or migration?

Article Abstract:

The possibility of a further North-South polarization and a further economic and social marginalization of large sectors of the South is explored. The South is seen to react to this possibility in three ways. These are the Khomeini option, the Saddam Hussein option and the individual option.
