The world after Florida

Article Abstract:

This article, from December 2000, questions the election procedure in Florida and notes that presidential candidate George W. Bush's brother is the governor of that state and that the Secretary of State had campaigned for Bush; also discussed are the implications of the US elections on foreign relations. Areas of concern include the erosion of US credibility in promoting democracy worldwide, damaging the concepts of political freedom, and effecting the legitimacy of the US president to make any decisions when he lacks support at home; also of concern is the fact that both candidates appeared to be isolationist.

Bush alone

Article Abstract:

The US President George W. Bush is the most unpopular sitting president in the history of the US, with his ratings sharply declining to 34% and even its loyal ally, Britain turning anti-Bush and criticizing his decision of waging a war against Iraq. However, despite such negativity, values like religion and family could play a bigger part in shaping the Republican victory, hence Democrats need to work hard to convince enough Americans that they would be able to lead the nation in a better way than the existing administration.

It's foreign policy, stupid

Article Abstract:

The outcome of the upcoming election is likely to determine what the 'resistance' in Iraq does between the present and the polling day. The capture of Saddam Hussein is probably one of the greatest turning points in the history of Iraq, which could secure President Bush a second term.
