Traversing more than speed bumps: Green politics under authoritarian regimes in Burma and Iran

Article Abstract:

The way the politics of environmental concern have crossed into hinterlands of two authoritarian regimes of Burma and Iran are studied, the political challenges faced under repressive regimes are examined and the activists' attempts at addressing human and environmental security issues are investigated. Green movements under authoritarian regimes are often in the vanguard of democracy movements, but in Burma and Iran, the prospects for this outcome are less assured.

Politics and environment in America: partisan and ideological cleavages in public support for environmentalism

Article Abstract:

An analysis is presented on the schism in personal and political attitudes toward environmentalism in the US, particularly between the Republican and Democratic Parties. The article focuses on the shift in attitudes, contrasting the landmark environmental legislation that was passed during the Republican administrations of the early 1970s, to present-day efforts by the George W. Bush administration to roll back some of those policies.
