Rapid economic development brought about by capitalism has adverse social ramifications. It inevitably destroys traditional social values because people tend to become more materialistic, more mobile and their desire to adapt to technological innovations at a short span of time intensifies.

Dividing our time: the other side of the Net

Article Abstract:

Promoters of the Internet do not take into account the other side of the production equation. At this other side are those who are disadvantaged by it, specifically the Second World workers. The technology, used in and by the capitalist market, sustains the uneven distribution of sources.

The second globalization: An Asian middle class (includes related articles)

The need to build a politically significant middle class, with money to spend, should be a priority in developing areas of the world. This class would be a safety net against the fluctuations in international markets which make countries reliant on exports vulnerable.
