President-elect George W. Bush's nomination of Colin Powell (State), Donald Rumsfeld (Defense), and Condoleezza Rice (National Security Adviser) assures he will try to enact his campaign pledge to build a ballistic missile shield. He also nominated avowed Energy Dept foe ex-Sen. Spencer Abraham for Energy Secretary.

U.S. remains world's top arms supplier

The annual Congressional Research Review for 1999 has reported that the United States is the leading global supplier of arms. The industry saw sales of $30.2 billion in 1999 marking the second year of growth since 1997.
