Article Abstract:
The African National Congress (ANC) victory at the polls in 2004 brought Thabo Mbeki. Since its first nonracial elections in 1994, South Africa has seen its democratic order become more firmly institutionalized, even as the electoral dominance of the ANC has continued to grow.

Promoting democracy: the Mandela-Mbeki doctrine
Article Abstract:
Issues are presented concerning the approach of former-President Nelson Mandela and President Thabo Mbeki to the growth of democracy in South Africa. The effect of the legacy left by apartheid on the democratic movement is discussed.
