"A shine on the nose": Sexual metaphors in Surrealism

Article Abstract:

The assault on the human figure, in Surrealism, whether face or female nude, represents a programmatic assault on propriety, authority, and an exalted aesthetic tradition. In light of a postwar social reality that included wounded bodies and widespread devastation, Surrealism can be said to reflect the experience of actual disfigurement and death, however, biographically information on individual artists suggest possible intrapsychic sources for the hostility behind these sexual representations.

Sexual orientation and personality

Article Abstract:

The relation between sexual orientation and personality was examined where self-ascribed masculinity-femininity (Self-M-F) and gender-related interests showed the largest hetrosexual-homosexual differences and the largest sex differences. Bisexual men were much more like gay men than like heterosexual men in their Self-M-F and gender-ralated interests, whereas bisexual women were intermediate between lesbian and hetrosexual women.

Sexual selection and the evolution of visually conspicuous sexually dimorphic traits in male monkeys, apes, and human beings

Article Abstract:

A study that focuses on possible relationships between occurrences of sexually dimorphic visual traits in male anthropoids and the types of mating systems that characterize the various species and genera is illustrated. Striking secondary sexual traits, such as brightly colored sexual skin, capes of hair, beards, and other facial adornments occur in adult males of many anthropoid primate species.
