Cognitive-behavioral stress management increases free testosterone and decreases psychological distress in HIV-seropositive men

Article Abstract:

A report of the effects of a 10-week cognitive-behavioral stress management intervention on mental distress and plasma free testosterone in symptomatic, HIV-positive men is given. Those in the intervention group showed significant increases in testosterone and distress reductions related to the control group.

Social support, positive states of mind, and HIV treatment adherence in men and women living with HIV/AIDS

Article Abstract:

Social support has a definite impact on better adherence to a medication regime among illness groups. A study was conducted to examine the relationship between social support, depression, positive state of mind, and medication adherence among HIV-positive men and women.

A stress and coping model of medication adherence and viral load in HIV-positive men and women on highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART)

Article Abstract:

The association of social support, approach-and avoidance-oriented coping and negative mood with adherence and HIV viral load for the specific purpose of testing stress and coping model in a diverse sample of HIV-positive men and women was examined. The results showed that there was combination of psychological variables in predicting treatment adherence and disease progression in HIV-positive men and women.
