An aging agenda for the 21st century: the opportunities and challenges of population longevity

Article Abstract:

The US Dept of Health and Human Services's Administration on Aging's agenda for the 21st century focuses on raising the quality of life of older Americans. Specifically, the administration plans to strengthen the Social Security and Medicare programs and emphasize on eliminating racial and ethnic disparities in health status. Likewise, the agency will upgrade its services and programs in anticipation of the impact of population longevity. Ultimately, the agency aims to achieve the provisions cited in the Older Americans Act, which places importance on developing programs for the aged.

Frank Ninkovich stated that Akira Iriye contributed to the study of history by focusing on the transcendental nature of diplomatic history. He demonstrated the interactive and trans-national character of international relations by showing the path to multiarchival exploration of sources. Cultural topics have gained importance in US foreign policy considerations due to Iriye's emphasis on the importance of culture, ideas and images.
