An experimental comparison of viewpoint-specific and viewpoint-independent models of object representation

Article Abstract:

Rotating objects during recognition tasks resulted in a significant decrease in performance. These findings suggest that object representations are specific to learned viewpoints.

Global-local orientation congruency effects in visual search

Article Abstract:

In an experiment using rotated letters, the effect of viewer-related orientation on the speed and accuracy of visual perception was measured. This study indicates that viewers align their frame of reference to facilitate the identification of objects placed in unusual positions.
