Benjamin Wolstein, Ph.D.: 'The analysis of transference as an interpersonal process'

Article Abstract:

Benjamin Wosltein indicated the effects of transference on the analyst's view of the patient's problem. Wolstein also indicated the significant influence of the personality and frame of reference of the analyst on the outcome of his analytic investigations of the patient's transference problems. Furthermore, Wolstein believed that the evaluation of therapeutic results requires an understanding of the past history of the patient and the immediate experience of the patient with the analyst.

The aim of psychoanalytic therapy

Article Abstract:

Psychoanalytic therapy aims to assist emotionally disturbed patients in achieving happiness by eliminating mental disorders that affect the patient's normal interaction with reality. The goal of psychoanalytic therapy is achieved by inhibiting the detrimental factors that are caused by the superego. Furthermore, the superego originates from the internalization of parenteral demand, values and obligations which affect the individuality of the child.

The analysis of transference as an interpersonal process

Article Abstract:

Transference is the microcosm of the patient's total personality that serves as the central focus of analytic investigation. The personality traits and psychological frame of reference of the analysts are important factors that influence the analytic investigation of the patient's transference problems. Furthermore, transference distorts the analyst's view of the patients problems and affects his assumptions on the patient's mental health.
