Bioinformatics - a new era

Article Abstract:

Bioinformatics is a relatively new field that deals with data management, analysis and interpretation as well as the development of new algorithms. It has been expanding exponentially together with the developments in the fields of biotechnology and information technology. There are only a handful of individuals well-versed in this field and they are not even formally trained. There is a need for the development of university programs that will deal specifically with the intricacies of bioinformatics. The trends and forecasts for the field of bioinformatics are discussed.

The future of bioinformatics

Article Abstract:

The future holds much promise for the science of bioinformatics. As the expansion of data and knowledge continues, there will be greater need for professionals well-versed in bioinformatics to collect, store, manage and interpret data. Bioinformatics is also likely to impact classical biology significantly. Protein and gene research will increase and develop at a tremendous pace. The implications of the development of bioinformatics and the challenges that lie ahead are discussed.

Functional genomics

Article Abstract:

The wealth of nucleotide sequence data brought about by various genome projects has given birth to another science, the science of functional genomics. This is the science that will try to determine how the blueprint becomes a functioning organism. To do this, functional genomics must bring together innovative technologies that can investigate and evaluate gene expression on a large scale. The development of these technologies are discussed.
