Body figure perceptions and eating attitudes among Australian schoolchildren aged 8 to 12 years

Article Abstract:

A survey of a sample of Australian children, consisting of 139 girls and 105 boys whose ages range from 8-12 years, was conducted to find out whether concerns about weight and the desire to be thinner arose even before adolescence. Results confirm similar studies in the US and Israel that children generally wish to be thinner. This desire was expected among overweight children. However, it was also observed in some normal and underweight children, which makes it an interesting finding.
