Burnout and collegial support in state psychiatric hospital staff

Article Abstract:

A study to determine the correlates of burnout ins state psychiatric hospital staff reveals that burnout and some of its harmful effect can be reduced by the facilitating staff with colleagues. Burnout is related positively to anxiety, frequency of illness, and the opposite job attitudes, and negatively correlated with the level of satisfaction with the collegial support network. Partial correlations reveals that satisfaction with support systems reduces with the impact of burnout on frequency of illness and job attitudes.

A longitudinal study of burnout among supervisors and managers: comparisons between the Leiter and Maslach (1988) and Golembiewski et al. (1986) models

Article Abstract:

A study examines burnout models and their applicability to experiences of human services sector managers and supervisors. The Leiter and Maslach model is found to be more consistent with results, especially with staff members who have less experience. The most critical component in the sequence is found to be emotional exhaustion, and methods of preventing and coping with such a reaction to job stress are considered from individual and from organizational points of view.

Prediction of academic performance among Chinese students: effort can compensate for lack of ability

Article Abstract:

An information-integration mathematical model was used to study the way in which Chinese students unite effort and ability information to forecast academic achievement. Subjects were 609 Chinese students at different educational levels and 102 teachers in Hong Kong. Results support the idea that Chinese students focus on greater effort in the belief that it makes up for lack of ability.
