Can encoding differences explain the benefits of directed forgetting in the list method paradigm?

Article Abstract:

The phenomenon of directed forgetting is examined in terms of the encoding strategies used by the subjects while performing the task. It is suggested that while change in context explains the costs of directed forgetting, the benefits seem to be the result of the subjects changing from a shallow to a deep encoding strategy, apparently in response to a change in mental context.

Attention to item-specific processing eliminates age effects in false memories

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine whether older adults could reduce false memories when given external contextual support. Results showed that when gist-based processing of list items was made, less accessible older and younger adults showed similar reductions in false recall and recognition.

Quite ordinary retrieval cues may determine free recall of actions

Article Abstract:

The mnemonic role of cues present during the encoding and retrieval of action phrases is studied to better understand the enactment effect. It was found that enactment effects were greater for action phrases when objects were present.
