Challenges for neuropsychology in the treatment and rehabilitation of brain-injured patients

Article Abstract:

Neuropsychologists have the background experience and specialized training to offer treatment ot patients with neurological conditions. Neuropsychological rehabilitation (NPR) has moved from being a solely psycho-therapeutic field, into full participation in the direct-care process, and the process by which neuropsychologists put brain-behaviour rehabilitation into practice is described. It is concluded that a more cohesive and well defined role of the neuropsychologist is required in NPR treatment approaches.

Development and evaluation of validity scales for the Neuropsychology Behavior and Affect Profile: a dissembling study

Article Abstract:

Both the validity and clinical scales of the Neuropsychology Behavior and Affect Profile (NBAP) are externally valid in detecting varying experience levels in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). The validity and clinical scales contribute differently to the detection. The dissembling study involves comparison of observer-rated NBAPs of TBI patients with NBAPs from three analog groups with varying clinical experience and knowledge.

Base rates of the WAIS-R intersubtest scatter and VIQ-PIQ discrepancy in normal elderly

Article Abstract:

A study of 156 healthy aged volunteers helped in elucidating that elderly subjects with good intelligence levels display an extreme degree of scatter in comparison to the other subjects. This finding has important clinical implications as it reveals the need for assessing elderly subjects with abnormal WAIS-R by comparing their age and intelligence levels.
