Chewing and spitting out food - a neglected symptom?

Article Abstract:

A study of a 27-year-old woman sufferer of bulimia and a 19-year-old female student, who displayed initial signs of anorexia nervosa, revealed chewing and spitting out food as effective symptoms in identifying patients with eating disorders. Chewing and spitting out food were attributed to adjunctive behavior in the bulimia nervosa-afflicted woman, while the student's habit of spitting out food was an alternative for binging and vomiting.
