Chronic stress burden, discrimination, and subclinical carotid artery disease in African American and Caucasian women

Article Abstract:

Research shows that chronic stress and higher incidence of carotid intima-media thickness are more prevalent in African American women than in Caucasian women. In African American women, the composite stress index and unfair treatment are associated with higher carotid inima-media thikness incidence. Overall, data indicate that African American women are vulnerable to chronic stress.
