Commentary: Vehicles of 'g'

Article Abstract:

The high correlation between various tests of ability could be attributed to the dominant presence of the general factor, 'g' , in each of them. Studies indicate that tests with high 'g factor' ratings are also high in validity. Research on twins also point to the possibility that the 'g factor' may be the representation of the genetic variance in ability tests. Other features of these tests are important and this justifies the existence of such a wide variety and the need to further improve them.

Commentary: What both critics and users of ability tests need to know

Article Abstract:

Controversial issues concerning the use of ability tests are discussed. Questions on validity, reliability, cultural bias, changeability of results, the extent of genetic influence and the tests' ability to predict future performance are answered. A discussion on group differences focusing primarily on the performance of blacks and whites is presented. The implications of these issues on the study of cognitive abilities is discussed.
