Cultural values in intergroup and single-group social dilemmas

Article Abstract:

An evaluation of individual cultural characteristics and their relation to cooperative behavior under social dilemma conditions verified such an interaction between characteristics and the dilemma type. Vertical individualists exhibited the single-group versus intergroup effect, least cooperation under single group conditions and greater cooperation under intergroup conditions. On the other hand, vertical collectivists exhibited the opposite behavior.

Anchoring, activation, and the construction of values

Article Abstract:

The activation account of anchoring has been examined. Five experiments were performed to determine the effects of manipulation on judgement of value and belief, and on measures of cognitive processes. The results showed that prompting subjects to consider features of the item that are different from the anchor reduces anchoring. However, increasing consideration of similar features has no effect on anchoring.

Achieving stepfamily harmony: An intergroup-relations approach

Article Abstract:

The use of an intergroup-relations perspective in the study of stepfamily harmony is examined. The relationship between favorable intergroup contact conditions and stepfamily harmony was found to be mediated by the perception of the stepfamily as one group rather than two. The more the stepfamily was see as one group the greater the stepfamily harmony.
