Delayed detection of pregnancy in patients with anorexia nervosa: two case reports

Article Abstract:

Delayed recognition of pregnancy was observed in two patients with anorexia nervosa. The detection of conception at weeks 25 and 26, respectively, was incidental. Both patients were amenorrheic before conception. Both patients experienced the eating disorder-related feelings of bloated bellies, nausea, lassitude and weakness, but ignored the possibility of pregnancy. Pregnancy in eating-disordered patients is rare and extremely complicated. Early detection and medical follow-up are essential to avoid the risks of complications.
