Development and initial validation of a new procedure for evaluating adequacy of effort given during neuropsychological testing: the letter memory test

Article Abstract:

Three studies evaluating the utility of the letter memory test (LMT) for the detection of analogue malingering and suspected motivational impairment in forensic neuropsychological evaluess were conducted. The first compared LMT, Digital Memory Test and 21-I performances from non-compensation-seeking patients. The second used community volunteers and depressed outpatients. The third compared LMT performances of neurological patients and mildly injured patients. Based on results, motivational tests are highly recommended for cases with financial contingencies hinging on test results.

Stability of intelligence and intellectual predictors in older persons

Article Abstract:

A study of the temporal stability of intelligence and its predictors in older individuals shows that Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale - Revised (WAIS-R) Full Scale IQ (FSIQ) scores are stable across a one-year period. The reliability coefficient of the WAIS-R FSIQ scores is .90. FSIQ estimates based on demographic questionnaire and the National Adult Reading Test - Revised (NART-R) are also stable over one year. However, estimates from the Intellectual Correlates Scale are less reliable than those from WAIS-R FSIQ and NART-R.

MMPI-2 clinical scales and 2-point code types: impact of varying levels of omitted items

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the effect of increasing levels of omitted answers (Cannot Say) on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) clinical scales and 2-point code types is presented. Data from 38 male and 62 female psychological outpatients who completed the MMPI-2 were investigated. Findings indicate that deleted items on MMPI-2 deflate clinical profiles and alter 2-point code types.
