Disordered eating in three communities of China: A comparative study of female high school students in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and rural Hunan

Article Abstract:

Disordered eating and its psychological correlates was examined in female high school students in Hong Kong, Shenzhen and rural Hunan. Hong Kong students were slimmer but desired a lower body mass index (BMI) and reported more body dissatisfaction. Body dissatisfaction was the most important predictor of fat concern.

Disordered eating and its psychosocial correlates among Chinese adolescent females in Hong Kong

Article Abstract:

Disordered eating attitudes and body dissatisfaction among Chinese adolescent females in Hong Kong show similarity to Western patterns of these variables. Body dissatisfaction is a strong predictor of disordered eating. Conflict and perceived family cohesion are also related to body dissatisfaction to some extent. These psychosocial variables can increase weight control behavior, fat phobic attitudes, and body dissatisfaction among female adolescents in Hong Kong.

Psychometric properties of the Eating Disorders Inventory (EDI-1) in a nonclinical Chinese population in Hong Kong

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on 1,172 male and female undergraduate students who were asked to complete the Chinese Eating Disorder Inventory (EDI-1) to determine its utility in a nonclinical Chinese population in Hong Kong. Results have shown that EDI-1 has subscales that can measure different psychological profiles that determine the multifactorial etiologies of eating disorders.
