Ethnic variations in children's problem behaviors: a cross-sectional, developmental study of Hawaii school children

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine the influence of cross-ethnic differences in children's problem behavior. The participants included 396 children aged 6 and 18 years old from schools in Hawaii. The findings indicate that overall problems and externalizing behaviors are predominant in males of Asian, Caucasian and Hawaiian descent. The ethnic variation of children's problem behavior was also influenced by perceptual bias of teachers, true differences in children's behavior, variations in teacher threshold to report problem behaviors for children and combination of these factors.

The frequency and distribution of spontaneous attention shifts between social and nonsocial stimuli in autistic, typically developing, and nonautistic developmentally delayed infants

Article Abstract:

Spontaneous shifts of attention have been observed in autistic, typically developing, and nonautistic developmentally delayed infants. Infants with autism shifted attention between an object and another object, while the two control groups shifted attention between an object and a personal more frequently.Infants with autism looked more briefly at people and for longer periods at objects, suggesting abnormalities in social orientation in autism even as early as 20 months of age.

Night wetting in children: psychological aspects

Article Abstract:

Nocturnal enuresis is a multifactorial condition which when not treated immediately, can lead to impaired social and emotional development among children. Family and parental perspective on the condition have to be considered since they have an impact on the choice of intervention. Treatment methods which are psychological in nature have been known to be effective, particularly in combination with pharmacological interventions.
