Evaluation of a complex case: the value of a drug washout period

Article Abstract:

Treatment of a diagnosed schizophrenic with a history of cerebral palsy and manipulative behavior proved to be difficult since doctors could not determine which symptoms stem from the disorder and which is willful behavior. The case confirmed the importance of a drug washout period prior to resuming treatment. Mr. A responded better to clozapine, which seems to have a positive impact on neuropsychological functioning and attention, compared to haloperidol and other medications.
