Explicitly questioning the nature of suggestibility in preschoolers' memory and retention

Article Abstract:

Research shows that memory accuracy in preschoolers can be aided through the use of temporal modifiers and conversational processes, with stability promoted by explicit questioning. Children who had been read a short story were substantially more accurate after being exposed to consistent information 1 week later under nonexplicit questioning than those exposed to misleading information. The difference was not great under explicit questioning at 1 week, but after 7 weeks explicit questioning produced much more accurate responses than nonexplicit questioning.

Representing inner worlds: theory of mind in autistic, deaf, and normal hearing children

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the degree to which delays in developing a theory of mind are specific in autistic children and those with varying conversational experience and awareness. The performance of deaf children was examined against those with autism and with normal hearing children based on a range of tasks. Results indicated that the development of a theory of mind correlates with an interplay among conversation, biology and culture.

Deafness, conversation and theory of mind

Article Abstract:

A study of 26 eight-to-13-year-old signing, prelingually-deaf Australian children of normal intelligence revealed that deaf and autistic children suffered equal deficiency levels in false-belief understanding. Almost two-third of the deaf subjects fared poorly in a false belief test to assess their cognitive capacities.
