Frequencies of child abuse in Japan: hidden but prevalent crime

Article Abstract:

A 1995 study suggests that the rate of child abuse in Japan is higher than previously believed, on a level with the US. The results of the study were unexpected because child abuse is considered an exceptional phenomenon in Japan. Many cases of child abuse go unreported, so future studies should use a community, rather than clinical, population.
