Frequency and correlates of substance use among preadolescents and adolescents in a Swiss epidemiological study

Article Abstract:

Alcohol and nicotine use were examined in the entire sample of 1,110 preadolescents and adolescents comprising the cohort of the Zurich Adolescent Psychopathology Project. The study focused on the frequency of alcohol and nicotine consumption in an epidemiological survey, the psychological characteristics of pubescent and adolescent alcohol and nicotine intake, the influence of parental substance use on adolescent substance use, and relationship between substance use and developmentally significant factors, including coping abilities, life events and social network.

Stability, correlates, and outcome of adolescent suicidal risk

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to investigate the stability and correlates of adolescent suicidal risk across adolescence. It was seen that suicidal risk individuals are remarkably stable across adolescence, indicating a very consistent pattern associated with behavioral and emotional problems and psychosocial variables across time form preadolescence to young adulthood.

The validity of adolescent types of alcohol use

Article Abstract:

The study conducted on the adolescent drinker typology indicated that multivariate concept might be more sensitive to important distinctions in adolescent drinking behavior than dichotomous diagnostic system or non-dimensional approaches. Findings supporting the validity of the distinction of various adolescent alcohol use types are presented.
