Historical aspects of psychiatry in French-speaking Switzerland during World War II

Article Abstract:

A study examined the result of the influence of sterilization campaigns in France and Germany in the French-speaking area of Romandy in Switzerland during World War II. Results showed that sterilizations were conducted on mentally feeble persons, those of lower socio-economic strata and inmates of mental asylums though eugenics cannot be ruled out.

Polish psychiatrists and eugenic sterilization during the interwar period

Article Abstract:

A study carried out in Poland during the ensuing period between the world wars examined the role of the Polish psychiatrists and sterilizations relevant to eugenics. Results showed that no law for compulsory sterilization was ever passed due to conflicting opinions on eugenics and sterilizations between psychiatrists.

Race enhancement through sterilization

Article Abstract:

A study examined the possible reasons for the mass voluntary sterilization of women in Sweden between 1942 and 1948. Results revealed that three reasons were responsible namely family planning, social and the practice of the theory of 'eugenics' (selective breeding) for hereditary improvement of the human race.
