Hormone profiles and reproductive characteristics in wild female Japanese macaques (Macaca fuscata)

Article Abstract:

The reproductive characteristics of wild female Japanese macaques (Macaca fuscata fuscata) are investigated in two non-consecutive years using noninvasive methods to monitor physiological events. The study reports on female reproductive variables, describes the changes in physical and behavioral states across an ovarian cycle, and investigates female fertility as inferred from rates of copulation, ovulation, conception, and birth.
