How do constraints on leaving a marriage affect behavior within the marriage?

Article Abstract:

Three independent studies to examine whether associations between constraint and negative behaviors in marriage are moderated by partner's level of constraint and the overall quality of the relationship are conducted. Results conclude that global commitment may obscure important differences between couples who remain in relationship, as they desire to and those who remain, as they believe they must.
