Eurocentric image of childhood in the context of the world's cultures

Article Abstract:

Scientific psychology is a creation of the Age of Enlightenment, thus, a Eurocentric product. Much of what is known through psychology has been largely based on the culture of the Europeans and the other western nations. European and non-European scholars and academicians should accept the fact that several paradigms and tenets of scientific psychology are limited in terms of international scope. Researches of different racial groups must be done to facilitate the sampling of different social and behavioral settings.

Culture, cognition, and biology: contexts for the developing mind

Article Abstract:

Theories on cognitive development should be redefined to include cognitive, biological and cultural concepts. A connective philosophy should be formulated to truly realize the interdependency of all three concepts. Neosociocultural approaches demand that studies on human development involve the individual's life beyond the childhood stage. The child may play an important role in society, but the mature individual will play a direct role in building the society.
