Characteristics of perpetrators with histories of sexual abuse

Article Abstract:

Sexual offenders are likely to have been victims of childhood sexual abuse and such abuse is likely to have been extensive and severe. This was confirmed by a study of 42 male sexual offenders. Such offenders were also younger than nonsexual ones at the time of their first abusive experiences and their abusers were likely to have been older. Sexual offenders were more likely to have been abused by multiple offenders. The study will hopefully help develop treatment for child sexual abuse victims and prevent future offenses.

Agreement between patient self-report and clinician rating: concurrence between the GAF among psychiatric inpatients

Article Abstract:

The two rating scales in the psychiatric inpatients, the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) and Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) show minimum congruence. The patients rated their own psychological symptoms on the BSI rating scales and clinicians rated patients' psychological, social and occupational functioning on the GAF scale. The study shows no relationship between symptom distress reported by patients and global functioning rated by clinicians.
