Conditions of sibling support in adolescence

Article Abstract:

This article examines adolescent sibling relationships and the extent in which they provide support for one another in familial and non-familial settings. The authors, analyzing data collected from 185 adolescent siblings, found that the older sibling often was in the support role regarding non-familial issues, and both provide equal support in familial issues.

Is parents' work involvement responsive to the quality of relationships with adolescent offspring?

Article Abstract:

Study is done to investigate changes in parents work involvement as a function of relationship quality with their firstborn adolescent offspring with data from a sample of dual-earner families is reported. Findings indicate a compensatory association between parents' feelings of acceptance and warmth toward offspring and work involvement and also highlights how parents may compensate for less positive relationships with adolescents.
