Language comprehension and expression among adolescents who have experienced childhood physical abuse

Article Abstract:

Adolescents with childhood physical abuse experiences show poor syntactic expression. A comparative study of 20 abused and 20 non-abused adolescents shows that the experiences have no significant effect on language comprehension and expressive vocabulary. The abused adolescents use more self-repetitions and less self-related language. Schooling experience and multiple care-giving situations have little effect on these language problems.
