Leptin levels in restricting and purging anorectics

Article Abstract:

Patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) of the purging subtype have low body fat, but their leptin level is the same as that of a control group, according to research designed to test the hypothesis that the AN-purging subgroup would have higher leptin levels compared with the AN-restricting subgroup despite restricting similar body mass indexes. The increased leptin in the AN-purging group could be caused by a rise in vasopressin levels due to vomiting, which boosts adrenocorticotropic hormone and cortisol levels.

Lipid levels in anorexia nervosa

Article Abstract:

Fasting cholesterol and beta-carotene levels were measured in a cohort of moderately severe anorectics to examine the role of hypercholesterolemia and hypercarotenemia in anorexia nervosa. Findings revealed normal total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol values among the 23 patients. However, high levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol values were found among the subjects. Hypercarotenemia was not linked to anorexia nervosa.

The paradox of normal serum albumin in Anorexia Nervosa: A case report

Article Abstract:

The case report of a patient with anorexia nervosa and marked hypoalbuminemia is presented. However, results revealed that hypoalbuminemia should not be considered a characteristic feature of AN even in the setting of progressive weight loss.
