Lexicality and interference in working memory in children and in adults

Article Abstract:

The impact of lexical status of memory and processing stimuli on complex memory performance is investigated with the help of experiments with an aim on exploring mechanism of interference in working memory. It is suggested that most useful conception of working memory is a broad one that incorporates the full range of current processing and temporary storage activities that is associated with a particular cognitive activity.

Timeless memory: Evidence against temporal distinctiveness models of short-term memory for serial order

Article Abstract:

The experiments aimed at differentiating between the two classes of theories are reported. The results show that neither serial recall nor probed recall benefit from temporal isolation, unless participants use pauses to group a list and simulations of the SIMPLE model provide convergent evidence that short-term memory for serial order need not involve temporal representations.

Strategy training and working memory task performance

Article Abstract:

The use of strategy influences working memory (WM) span performance and correlation between WM span scores and higher cognitive function, using the operation span measure and the Nelson-Denny assessment of reading ability was examined through three experiments. The importance of controlling for variation in strategy use during assessments of WM span is discussed.
