Local and global processing of music in high-functioning persons with autism: beyond central coherence?

Article Abstract:

This article examines global and local musical information processing in high-functioning autistic individuals and control subjects during a melody discrimination task. Findings indicate that there were no differences between groups in global music processing but autistic individuals had improved performance on tasks emphasizing local music processing when compared to controls.

The development of emotional concepts in autism

Article Abstract:

Autistic people do not appear to be as able to recognize signs of emotion as do non-autistic people. An autistic and a non-autistic group were shown photos of people and asked to identify their emotional state. Autistic people were also given color-cards to identify as a control. While they scored well on the color test, the autistic people scored poorly on the emotion test.
