Longitudinal pathways to psychological adjustment among black youth in single-parent households

Article Abstract:

The family and maternal functioning to youth psychological adjustment with single-mother-headed African American families with young adolescents living in the rural South is tested using a 5-wave model. The results indicated that the model accounted for change in youth psychological adjustment across 4 years.

Reciprocal associations between adolescent sexual activity and quality of youth-parent interactions

Article Abstract:

The differences in adolescents' relationship with their parents before and after adolescent first sexual activity are examined. The results confirm that increased problem-focused interactions, decreased parental closeness, and shared activities both precede and follow adolescent sexual activity.

Parental socialization of child and adolescent physical activity: a meta-analysis

Article Abstract:

A meta-analysis approach studies the relation of parental, child and adolescent physical activity. Mixed empirical results show parental activity to be effective when appropriate methods are applied.
